Abstract
The main purpose of this article is to analyze democracy in high school curricula in Central America, so as to help clarify how democracy is taught in each country of this region. The methodology of comparative analysis was applied to high school curricula in Social Sciences, Social Studies and Citizenship Education. Some of the main results are the following: participatory democracy prevails in Central American curricula; there is a strong presence of values in the discourse on democracy; there is little criticism of democracy; and there is a fragmentary view of each country’s process of transition to representative democracy.
